Sing and dance with Gioca Jouer!

Ciao a tutti!

We have been continuing our personal profiles this week, and I have enjoyed learning more about the families and interests of all of the students. The Prep – Grade 2s have been learning vocabulary to describe their family and discussing how families come in all different shapes and sizes. The Grade 3-6s have been learning how to talk about their interests and hobbies.

To practice Italian words for family members via the activity that we did in class with the Prep-2s, click here: La mia famiglia (my family)
For activities to learn about how to talk about what you like and don’t like, click here: Mi piace... (I like...)

Practice some Italian that we learnt this week at home with your family! Here are some words and phrases to help you:

Mi piacciono…   I like (them)…                                      Non mi piacciono…          I don’t like (them)…

We have also been singing and dancing along to the Italian song from the 1980s called “Gioca Jouer”. Many students have also requested that the Youtube clip for the song be posted on the blog so that they can sing along at home. Teach your family the lyrics and dance moves, and sing along together at home! You can look at the picture below the video clip to remind you of the moves and lyrics.

Many students have requested direct links to some of the online activities that we have done in class. It is great to see so much enthusiasm!
To play ‘match the number’ and practice your numbers from 1-10, click here: Match the Number

To have fun describing hair appearance, click here: Hair (i capelli)
To play ‘Guess Who’ and get a head-start on what we will be doing next week, click here: Guess Who

Below is a photo of Hannah’s class playing ‘match the number’. It was fantastic to see the Preps joining in and having a go, and the Grade 1 and 2 buddies being so supportive and encouraging.
I’m looking forward to another great week next week!

A presto! (See you soon!)

Ciao a tutti!

Ciao a tutti!

We have been very busy in Italian this week! We have been exploring the new SSPS Italiano! blog, finding out how to use the links to play fun Italian games and improve our Italian at the same time. The Grade 3-6s have been racing the clock in an Italian maths game. The photo below shows Andy’s class thinking hard and fast to do addition in Italian. To practice this at home, click the “Digital Dialects” link on the right side of the blog, and then “Numbers 1-12”. Or you can just click this link:  I numeri 1 - 12

It has been great to hear that so many families have been looking at the blog online and trying out the online activities.

To receive emails to keep you up to date with our weekly post, subscribe to SSPS Italiano! by typing your email address into the box on the right hand side of the blog.

A presto!
Stephanie :)

You can almost hear the brain cogs whirring!

Benvenuti!

Benvenuti!

My name is Stephanie Molan and I will be teaching Italian at SSPS for Term 1 & 2 this year. I am really looking forward to teaching all of the wonderful students at Spensley Street!

We will spend the first few weeks of Term 1 learning how to talk about ourselves and creating a personal profile. For the remainder of Term 1 and all of Term 2 we will then learn science in Italian, focusing on the five senses (i cinque sensi) – taste (il gusto), smell (l’olfatto), sight (la vista), hearing (l’udito) and touch (il tatto). We will be doing hands-on experiments and also using the garden to explore our senses and develop our Italian language.

On this blog we will share what we have been learning and include useful links so that families can learn together at home.

A presto,
Stephanie
